Extolling the virtues of Vista.
Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
You're preaching to the choir here. Was stupid enough to buy a new desktop and laptop for the family without realizing the nightmare that is Vista Home Premium.
On the plus side, my Acer Aspire 5570Z will actually run RRT3 with the 1.06 patch and all the mods.
But despite tens of hours of effort, the Compaq Presario SR5130NX wil not run RRT3. Not that I'm annoyed or vengeful or anything. . .

Watch this space for Equus Ferrius Corporation's website! Soon to build biomass fueled steam locomotives, and lease a short line. We're going for it!
Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
I take it the Compaq is the Vista rig and the Acer runs another OS.

No- both came preloaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. My daughter has the laptop right now- will post the exact specs later.

Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
From memory of the old Gathering forums weren't there some problems with NVidia cards that were patched round in some of the later patches? I can't see anything in the readme files or history files though.
Maybe the problem with Vista is the type of graphics card and the patch level? Most Gaming PCs seem to have NVidia cards
I suspect NVidia AND Vista AND Patches greater than 1.03 is the problem. (I use XP and an ATI card so wouldn't know)

Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
No, the problem is with Vista itself. Many, many programs, both recent and older, do not work with vista, regardless of which version you have or which hardware you have. IIRC, it has something to do with Vista's software environment.

so are you saying that your notebook with Vista on DOES run RT3 ? ?
ordered a new notebook just a few days ago and of course it also has Vista on...but as soon as I heard of RT3 not running on Vista I'm thinking of installing XP on that one again...though I heard of some drivers/hardware issues then...
hell, I mean, a program that was written in the times of XP doesn't run on its successor?!?

I have followed this thread without actually watching the video. After your comment Rick, I decided I should watch the thing. I have now played it for the whole dang family. It quacked us all up!

Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
Well, Knave, if you'd have just thought about it a minute,
it would have dawned on you that Ed will only post one of four things.
1. Something very funny.
2. Something very political.
3. Something very helpful.
4. Something very interesting.
Since this was a Vista thing, you should also know by now, that he hates Vista, (and so do I).
So, something interesting, about Vista? No way...
Something political? Don't think so...
Helpful? Not a chance....
Therefore, it had to be very funny.
How's that for deductive reasoning?

Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
I try very hard to not second guess what Hawk is gonna do next.......I will admit to two things here. I WAS looking forward to Vista. I AM very disappointed in the finished product. Ed was right, Bob was wrong. Thirty years of marriage. I'm used to being wrong. Sigh.......

Re: Extolling the virtues of Vista.
I wouldn't say I was right. There's a lot of folks that like Vista.
Personally though, I don't much care for the trade-off of the hassle that can arise for what you get.
