Due to map degradation during my updates the game maps need to be replaced ... unless someone wants to go thru a virgin game and replace most of the EVENTS.

Yes, it's possible by direct hex editing of the .gmp. I haven't done it, but it's mentioned in one of the threads here (someone else will probably know). The image info is all in one huge chunk in the .gmp, so you can substitute the image info from the original in a hex editor.

Thanks I've used HxD in the past. I'll look for the thread(s).

This might be it? viewtopic.php?p=27944#p27944. This is good news. ::!**!

I tried it quickly and I didn't notice any degradation on a quick load. Thanks so much, Wolverine, for instructions that even I can follow! !!clap!! I wish we had some of the original betas of some of the maps to fix now. . . oh well . . . some of the re-dos of the PopTop games could be fixed up nicely with this method.

Although this is designed for replacement of the degraded painted map on a 64-bit system, in theory it should be applicable for replacement of any map.
