Warehouse question Unread post

Gumboots wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2015 8:17 pmThe lack of drop shipping in RT3 is not a direct consequence of having cargo move on its own. It would be easy to code holding pens that allowed drop shipping, while still allowing cargo outside the pens to move across country.

As an alternative drop shipping solution, I tested a warehouse exchanging diesel with diesel. However, it exchanges 1 load of diesel for 2, which sounds absolutely ridiculous. Any idea why this happens and how it can be corrected to 1 for 1 ?

Warehouse recipes are a bit counter-inuitive in how you set them up. It should be possible to have it 1:1, because 1:1 conversions for other cargoes are possible. If you can't get it to work any other way, set it to 2:2 and set maximum annual production to 1.

Do note that it won't work very well. Warehouses are industries, so they need to make a profit on any conversion before they will do much. If there is no profit on the conversion they will only produce very small amounts, and may vanish from the map. If you set up a warehouse with two different conversion chains, it will always choose the one which is most profitable.

The other way you can do it is as demand 1, supply 1. That will be independent of conversions, and will always work at the full amounts, but it still won't make for a profitable warehouse by itself.

Thanks, the annual limit fixed it ! Its intended function as "drop shipping" seems to be fullfilled, from some quick testing.

I take it you figured it out already. . . . Anyway, the ratio of a conversion is hidden. Set the type to "Supply Only" to reveal the modifier. Then set the type back to "conversion" when you are done. :-)
