Re: Hello! Unread post

Gumboots wrote: Tue Jun 13, 2023 6:49 pm There is a "no CD patch", which allows you to play RT3 without the disc once the game is installed (it's how I run the game on my PC).
That's interesting - I think I'll try that. And keep the CD safe for re-installation, of course! I lost one of my RT3 discs when I gave someone an old computer with the disc still in the drive *!*!*! Had to get a new one from Sold Out software - don't know if they are still around, might be an idea for Matthew.

Where would I get the no-cd patch?

Thanks

Try this post: viewtopic.php?p=41934#p41934.

PS. The no-cd on the main site is giving me a 404 error when I try to download it.

Oh ok. I'll fix that up (as soon as I can be bothered). :)

That link appears to be to an orphaned page and the link on that page seems to be from before the files being hosted outside the site on mediafire.

The zip file is still there but for some reason the name has changed.
I probably renamed it myself (for some reason) and forgot about it.
This link will work: RT3_nocd105_patch.zip
I'll get onto fixing the site page later today. !*th_up*!

Thanks, guys! Up and running without a disc! Well, not running so much as plodding. Can't seem to get anywhere with Poland. :-(

Re: Hello! Unread post

Just went to Good Old Games (GoG) 2.49 for the game! The map must be pretty red for that price. Very low demand these days...
Thanks for advice.

Lol. It's an old game so yes, very cheap these days (as long as you can load the disc to install the game),

Re: Hello! Unread post

Buy from GoG you get a DRM free downloadable copy of the game no disc needed -no need to have an optical drive at all. You can pay in
£ GBP
$ USD
€ EUR
Prices convert between currencies reasonably well I'm told.
Current prices in GBP
RT2 Platinum £0.79
RT3 £1.49
Sid Meiers Railroads £1.49
Sometimes even cheaper. All listed as working on windows 11!

The original game disks with copy protection for many old games often won't install or play on windows 7 or later because of the copy protection.

GoG also do Railway Empire, Transport Fever and Transport Giant. Good Old games are best for the older games like the 3 above and Dos based games as they work well, but the more modern ones available for download from first release may be best bought on steam or elsewhere if you are prepared to accept DRM.

GOG test and patch all games to make sure they work as well as possible and they are all DRM free.

Excellent. At that price I might even get a GoG copy myself, just as a backup.

Gumboots wrote: Mon Jun 05, 2023 6:12 pm When I uploaded Costa Calida to the archives I forgot to put a note that it's for 1.06 (although it does mention that in the forum thread for the map). I'll edit the archive entry to fix it. :)
The map is now listed in the archives as being a 1.06 map.

This is fixed. The "No CD" patch is now on the main RT3 Extras page.

The link to the old page is automatically redirected to the new page. !*th_up*!
